The luxury home gym, designed in from the start

Fitness has become a destination, and for many people the best place to train is at home. Too often, though, the home gym is the last thing considered: a bench and a rack pushed into the corner of the garage between the car and the bins. A space you use most days deserves the same thought as the kitchen or the living room.

Plan it with the house

The best home gyms are planned while the house is still being designed or renovated. At that stage it's easy to:

  • give the gym good light, ventilation and a view
  • set the ceiling height for overhead lifts and jumps
  • build the floor to take heavy weights, and to stop noise reaching bedrooms and living areas
  • run power and data for screens, audio and cardio equipment
  • plan joinery and storage so everything has a home

We work with architects, builders and interior designers to get these details into the plans. Our floor plans and 3D renders let you see the room before it's built. See For architects and builders.

Choose equipment by how you train

A home gym only needs what you will actually use. Someone who lifts heavy needs a quality rack, bar, plates and a platform. Someone who trains for general fitness might be better served by:

  • a functional trainer
  • adjustable dumbbells
  • a bench
  • one excellent piece of cardio equipment

Couples and families often need both. We start with how you train now and how you want to train, then build the equipment list around it.

The floor

Rubber flooring in a home gym protects the slab, quietens the room and makes training feel good underfoot. LUXGYM installs seamless rolled rubber with inlaid lifting platforms for the cleanest look. Pre-sealed options make it easy to keep looking new. A strip of turf adds space for sled pushes, stretching and mobility. See How to choose rubber gym flooring.

Finishes that suit the house

Equipment can be finished in custom colours and upholstery to match the interior. Allow around 14 to 16 weeks for customised pieces. Joinery, lighting and audio visual can bring the gym into line with the rest of the home.

Try it first

The most important step is training on the equipment before you buy. Our Cooroy showroom, inland from Noosa, is set up so you can feel the difference between racks, bars, flooring and turf. That's far better than choosing from a catalogue.
